This itinerary is designed for travelers who are passionate about the Italian language and want to experience “real” Italian life. We will see some of the scenery and visit locations featured in the popular TV series "Inspector Montalbano", we will visit the town of Savoca, which became famous after some scenes of “Il Padrino” movie were filmed.  Moreover we will visit places where the internationally known film "Il Postino" was filmed. The trip will comprise a small group of 10 to 15 people. We will have Italian lessons focused on the day topic; we will sometimes use public transport for a short period of time in order to encourage you to practise your Italian. Please be aware ITALIANS EAT A LOT!!!

Day 1 – ARRIVAL IN CATANIA

After arrival at Catania Airport we will travel to Taormina and check-in at our Hotel. We will have dinner, then Buona notte!

      

Day 2 - TAORMINA AND GREEK THEATRE

Today is the first day of our Language Holiday: BUONGIORNO! After breakfast we will travel by bus to Castelmola where we will have a nice walk to discover this beautiful medieval town. We will stop at the famous Bar Turrisi where you will have time to rest and, if you like, to enjoy a typical Italian “pausa caffe’. You will have some time at leisure for shopping before catching the bus back to our Hotel in Taormina where we will have our first Italian lesson. After a lovely dinner you will enjoy the rest of the night as you prefer

               

          

     

 

Day 3– MOUNT ETNA

After breakfast we will leave the hotel to go up Mount Etna, the “fire giant”.  We will stop for honey tasting at a honey producer in Zafferana Etnea. We will then drive to 2000 metres (7000 feet) and leisurely explore the volcano. We will have the opportunity of continuing the excursion to 3000 metres (fees apply). You will then have some free time to enjoy the views and lunch. On the way back to Taormina we will visit a Wine Producer on Mount Etna.  At the hotel we will have our Italian lesson before dinner. The evening will be at your leisure.

  

Day 4 – RIVIERA DEI CICLOPI / CATANIA

This morning, after breakfast, our first destination will be Riviera dei Ciclopi. On the way we will stop to take some pictures of the magnificent view at Acitrezza or Acicastello. We will then continue our trip to Catania to admire the famous fish market, with the opportunity to see the Cathedral and explore Etnea Street!

You will have some free time for lunch before heading back to Taormina where we will have our Italian lesson and dinner then you will have the evening at your leisure

    

    

Day 5 -  SIRACUSA

Today we will have breakfast and leave the hotel to travel to Syracuse, the Ancient Greek colony. We will have a guided tour at the Archaeological Park of Neapolis, where we will admire the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Ierone Altar and the curious Ear of Dyonisius. We will then visit Ortigia Island with its Temple of Apollo, the Aretusa Spring and the splendid and unique Cathedral. You will enjoy some free time for lunch before travelling back to the hotel. After dinner you will have time at your leisure.     

 

 

    

 

Day 6 –  NAXOS GARDENS / COOKING LESSON

This morning we will have breakfast before catching the bus to Naxos Gardens. There, we will go grocery shopping with the Chef. At the Chef’s house we will have a Cooking Lesson and enjoy the meals we prepared. We will then catch the bus back to Taormina where we will have an Italian lesson before dinner.

              

Day 7- RAGUSA

Today we will have breakfast then leave to visit Ragusa. We will discover Ibla’s historical centre, and have a chocolate tasting, a typical produce of this area. We will continue with the visit of the Baroque Dome of Saint George and the Villa Comunale with its wonderful view overlooking the valley. We will admire some of the scenery and visit locations featured in the popular TV series "Inspector Montalbano". We will have some free time for lunch before going back to the hotel for our Italian lesson and dinner.

          

 

 

Day 8 – CEFALU’

Today after breakfast we will check out. Our destination will be Cefalu’. On the way we will stop at Savoca. This town became famous after some scenes of “Il Padrino” movie were filmed. We will have lunch in Capo d’Orlando before arriving in Cefalu’.  We will check in at our new hotel, have dinner and some time at leisure.

                 

 

Day 9 –.CASTELBUONO

After breakfast we will catch the bus to Castelbuono, agricultural centre at the heart of “Madonie”, a town famous for Manna production and for its cakes. We will visit the Medieval Castle and taste some of the typical produce. We will then walk through the historical centre. By bus we will go back to Cefalu’ where you will have some free time for lunch. We will be having our Italian lesson before dinner then some time at leisure.

  

Day 10 - PALERMO

After breakfast we will travel to Palermo. We will enjoy a City sightseeing tour and have an historic centre guided visit: the Norman Palace and the Palatine Chapel, the Norman Cathedral of Monreale (ancient village near Palermo) and its Benedictine cloister. You will have some free time for lunch and some shopping. Back in Cefalù we will have our Italian lesson and dinner.

 

 

 

      

 

 Day 11 – AGRIGENTO

After breakfast we will travel to Agrigento where we will visit the Valley of the Temples, a magnificent archaeological site, ranked among the most important architectural specimens of the Greek classical Age. We will have some free time for lunch. On our way back we will stop to visit the Villa Romana del Casale di Piazza Armerina. Back in Cefalu’ we will have dinner and some time at leisure.

       

     

 

Day 12 – FREE DAY  

Today after breakfast we will have our Italian lesson and the rest of the day will be free for you to venture out on your own, shop or go for Marsala tasting in one of the typical cellars. The choice is yours. We will have dinner in a local restaurant.

    

           

 

Day 13 - ERICE

After breakfast we will travel to Erice, a picturesque medieval town, at the top of San Giuliano Mountain. We will enjoy a nice walking tour to discover the beautiful and attractive sights of the village and the enchanting view overlooking Trapani, the Mediterranean Sea and the Egadi Islands. We will taste some of the famous Erice almond pastries in the well known local bakery. We will then travel back to Cefalu’ for our Italian lesson and Dinner            

          

Day 14 – MADONIE MOUNTAINS / COOKING CLASS

Today after breakfast our last destination of our Language Holiday will be the Madonie mountains. We will spend the day in the “Villa Dafne” farm house where we will taste some fresh ricotta and learn everything about it. We will have a hands-on cooking lesson and enjoy a wonderful lunch. Back in Cefalu’ we will have some free time before Dinner.

      

    

Day 15 – AEOLIAN ISLAND - SALINA

After breakfast we will travel to the Aeolian Islands, UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our destination is Salina Island.  In 1994 the film Il Postino, an enormous international success, was mostly filmed here.  We are so lucky to know the owner of the Postino House and today we will visit it. Later on we will wander around to discover this  green and fertile land, characterised by its twin (inactive) volcanoes. Back to our hotel late in the evening for dinner.

  

 

Day 16 – Departure

After breakfast we will check-out and head to the Airport to catch our flight back to Melbourne

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST!!!

PASSPORT

Your passport must have at least 6 months validity beyond your return date which means it must be valid until at least November 2013.  Australian Passport holders do not require visas for travel to Italy. If you will be travelling on another passport please let us know so we can confirm your requirements.


TRAVEL INSURANCE

Travel Insurance is not included in your tour cost and is compulsory. In case of cancellation due to sickness or any other causes and any other unforseen event that may occur you must be covered for cancellation expenses and any medical costs.  We are unable to take responsibility for matters that are outside our control.
